Famous Polanders
Mikolaj Kopernik
(Nicolaus Copernicus)
1473~1543
However, the Bible couldn't be the absolute truth forever. It was
Copernicus (1473~1543, Polander) who proposed the new thought
which was opposite of the Bible. He formulated the "heliocentric
theory," which states that the Earth revolves around the sun. He
thought that Ptolemy's theory was too hard to understand. Therefore,
after supposing that the sun was the center of the universe, which
was claimed by Eratostheness (BC 275~BC 194) 1500 years
earlier, he examined the motion of the Earth, and then, the motion of
the Earth was easy to understand. Though it was in 1530 that he
completed his research, he didn't publish the results of his research
for a long time because his research was in opposition to the Bible.
However, finally, his book, "On the Revolutions of Heavenly Spheres"
was published in 1543.
